Erin is sadly one those dogs that no has one ever wanted. She is now around 14 years old. I have never understood just why nobody ever wanted her. Possibly because she is a foxhound mix breed and as such deemed 'unsuitable' by most people to be a house pet. The saddest thing about that is Erin would be simply perfect, and always has been. She has a beautiful and kind nature both with people and other dogs, perfect in and around the house and her manners are impeccable!
When Erin arrived here she was in a sad and and sorry state. She was emaciated. Her bones were sticking out and she was suffering from extremely bad mange. That is now a long time ago, and, I hope, she has long since forgotten the experience.
Many years ago I started a little game with Erin when she was out in the yard or the green paddock in which they they play. The game started as she is ALWAYS last in, and I would finally call out for 'a very pretty girl called Erin'. She seemed to latch on to this quite quickly and soon was pretending to not hear me call her, until I would feign a little panic in my voice. Then she would give herself a little shake, and put on a sort of 'Oh, dear. I suppose I had better go. Sounds as if she can't do without me' expression on her face, and come running. I made a rod for my own back with that game, because unless I went through the whole routine she just will not come at all when called!
Unfortunately Erin now has a heart condition and so we don't get to play too many games anymore. Nevertheless she is still always last in through the back door!
