MISTY

Misty is now 13 years old, and has been here almost all her life. She came to me as an unwanted dog and, from what little I could ascertain from her owners, it seemed that she had spent the first year of her life confined almost constantly to a garden shed.

It didn't take long to find out just why that was. Misty is a little bit 'unpredictable'. As a younger dog when things did not 'suit' her, she would growl or snap. She never ever has 'followed through' with her threats and seldom even bothers to try these days but, as you can imagine, it made her impossible to rehome..

So, Misty lives her life here with the others. She is a funny little character in her own way, and takes it upon herself to follow on the heels of whoever is on kennel duty. Its almost as if she is supervising the humans to ensure they do a good job! She doesn't do it when I'm cleaning, I like to think that is because she knows I will do perfrom to her very high standards!!!

Misty has the type of coat that mats no matter how often I brush her, so for many years I gave her my famous hairdo which I call 'steps'. A while back a friend opened up a dog grooming business, and offered to groom Misty for free any time she needed a hairdo, just so long as I wouldn't take the scissors to her. She maintains that even Misty knows that she looks ridiculous after I have been at her! Anyone else might have taken offence to this comment but, I have to admit, my friend has a point!! So Misty goes off to her personal beautician around three times a year for the day and comes back delighted with herself!

Misty is very well balanced around other dogs, and I often let her meet and greet a new dog if it is nervous or unsure. She seems to have a very calming effect on them.

It's as if she tells them somehow that its o.k., that she has been here for years and (apart from a few bad hairdos) nothing bad ever happened!
